Terms
These are the ground rules for using gingham, kept short and in plain words. By making an account, you agree to them. “We” means the people who run gingham, and “you” means you.
What gingham is
gingham is a recipe app for you and the people you cook for. It saves recipes from links, photos, videos, and pasted text in one clean format, and helps you cook from them, plan the week, and shop. Sharing with family and friends is coming soon.
Free, with no ads
- gingham is free to use right now, and it has no ads.
- Some things have fair limits, such as how many times a month gingham can ask Claude to read a recipe for you. The app tells you when you reach one.
- If we ever add a paid plan for extras, we’ll say so in the app first, and you’ll always be able to see and download what you’ve saved.
Who can use it
- You need to be at least 13. If you’re younger than the age of adulthood where you live, check with a parent or guardian first.
- One account per person, made by you, not by a script.
- Keep your password to yourself. You’re responsible for what happens in your account, so tell us if you think someone else got in.
Your recipes and photos stay yours
You keep whatever rights you have in what you save. You let us store it, show it back to you, and do what you ask with it, such as reading a photo or a page with Claude, or, once sharing arrives, showing a recipe to the people you share it with. We don’t sell it or use it for anything else (see the privacy policy).
What you save and share
- Recipes from websites, videos, and cookbooks belong to the people who made them. gingham keeps them for your own personal use, with a credit and a link back to where they came from.
- Only share what you’re allowed to: your own recipes, family recipes the cook is happy to pass on, and links to the rest.
- Don’t save or share anything illegal, hateful, or that isn’t yours to share. You’re responsible for what you save and share.
Please don’t
- Make accounts in bulk or with a script, or get around the limits on sign-ups or reading.
- Scrape or copy gingham, or collect anything from it automatically.
- Attack, probe, or overload gingham, or use it to fetch pages for anything other than saving a recipe.
- Use someone else’s account, or try to see what isn’t yours.
We may stop or close an account that does any of these.
Check before you cook
gingham reads recipes with software and with Claude, an AI, which can get things wrong, and its swaps are suggestions. Check amounts, swaps, cooking times, and temperatures yourself, and always check ingredients when someone has an allergy.
Changes, and if gingham ends
- gingham will keep changing as it grows. If these terms change in a way that matters, we’ll say so in the app before it takes effect, and the date at the top will change.
- If gingham ever shuts down, we’ll tell you in the app at least 30 days ahead, so you have time to take everything with you: on the You tab, Download my recipes and data gives you one file with all of it.
- You can leave at any time: Delete my account on the You tab removes everything for good.
No warranty
We work hard to keep gingham running and your recipes safe, but it comes as it is. We can’t promise it will always be there, never have a mistake, or never lose anything, so keep a copy of anything you’d hate to lose.
Limit of liability
As far as the law allows, we aren’t responsible for indirect losses or lost data, and our total responsibility to you for anything to do with gingham is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the past 12 months or 50 US dollars. Some places don’t allow limits like these, so they may not all apply to you.
